Due to its geographic proximity, the Irish writers use English while targeted audience in the English speaking region. This writing surprised me because of the fact that European missionaries replaced Mwari’s supreme being with the name of Yahweh to take over the said-to-be inferior and unauthentic belief system of Shona. The imperialistic motif based on the white supremacy here again goes into the process of suppressing the indigenous people and their authentic lives and traditions.

First of all I struggled to identify who Sophia was and thought this was one of a biblical figure written somewhere in the Catholic bible. The ambiguous dual identity of Sophia, which presents a godless-like yet instable and inappropriate hybrid being, is exerted in the reading, but the problem for me is that I don’t know where I connect this aspect into- feel bewildered.

It was nice summing up of the objectives of this course lectured by Ryan today and greatly helped me to reinforce my understanding as far as its class contents go. Also some part of it made me think about myself: am I the one who doesn’t know all the right cues coming from outside? The answer was to a degree yes. Although I have been living in the U S for more than 20 years, this is maybe the first time to come out of my life routine to expose myself to the different community within, not one but two or three..

Week 10: Response to Tom’s Monday class reflection

As I read Tom’s reflection, it became clearer for me to put Yoder’s five practices in place where the exilic model of the church is necessitated. What it adversely motivated me further was trying to look for what I can afford to practice, my one, among all other practices being presented. One subcategorized practice under the Eucharist seemed challenging, but to be felt burdened to me: taking a role of eating together, or if linearly interpreted as it were, having communion with the homeless. While not knowing the whole scale of keeping all practices, I think that doing my “one” will do sustain my identity in Christ from being assimilated to a host culture in the midst of my exile.

The different aspects of relevancy were fully discussed during the class and the development of the idea of relevancy really helped me remove some associated ambiguity and think whom I am relevant to who and what. According to Wess, relevancy is expressed in consumerism, which made a relevant sense to me. The ultimatum is that gospel is relevant to everyone.

This reading as the previous reading “The body in the library” is linked to well-embedded Eurocentric elements in the literature written by the colonizer. The efforts to get away of from the postcolonial spirits in the literature are being made by the contemporary writers in Australia an New Zealand and it is by all mean so natural to be progressed.

My interpretation has a certain limitation in regards to a position of the female writers in a colonial setting. But it is clear that the ambiguity on identifying themselves within a colonial setting created contradictoryreaction toward the perspectives perceived from the colonized. The tool of words, literature, and the colonial education system, which extinguished the very existence of the indigenous people, is the one that put the contemporary woman writers in a colonial or postcolonial subjectivity.
